1. May 8th, 2007…

The 2007 Griffith Park Fire is a harbinger of fires to come. Its behavior was unpredictable. The rate at which it spread and burn pattern were unprecedented, defying patterns firefighters had previously experienced. More major blazes in LA’s brush-lined urban neighborhoods will follow.

2. Context - Fire History

Climate change is already producing fluctuations in fire behavior, creating more intense fire conditions in Southern California, specifically in what is known as the LA Fire Corridor. There is concern that these continued significant changes in wildland fire behavior will lead to fires in areas that have not historically been affected.
