ABOUT THE REPAIR SERIES
Sense LA, a conversational and problem solving program running out of LA based Berggruen Institute, has been working with communities and the Los Angeles Police Department for the past year and a half on a program called REPAIR, organizing sessions called creative assemblies, for the purpose of collaboratively determining the future of public safety and policing, to move forward together.
WHAT WE’VE DONE
Following successful work last year with the 77th St. Division, we have started working in Central Bureau as part of phase two of the REPAIR Sessions.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
The assemblies at Central Bureau have began by engaging with officers and community from Newton and Central Divisions before moving to other Bureaus throughout the City. (view map of divisions)
ABOUT CREATIVE ASSEMBLIES
Officers and community from Newton have been divided into two groups who will each be engaging with the process in two sessions.
SESSION 1
Session 1 is a full-day closed door discussion, where officers and community are separately identifying the issues that affect their day to day operations, interconnect them, and visualize them through the use of various leading edge design practices created at MIT. These visualizations and discussions will help officers identify issues and synchronize voices in order to present a unified set of ideas to the community.
SESSION 2
Session 2 is a mixed session between officers and community who have also gone through session 1. Participants will be presenting what was done in the previous session as a jumping off point for a deep and productive conversation between each other. Officers will be in plain clothes and unarmed.
